NHS England urges those unprotected against measles to come forward for their vaccinations.

Measles cases are continuing to rise across England, with a number of unvaccinated children and adults requiring hospital as infections take hold.
This month, millions of parents and carers in England are being contacted by the NHS to book their children in for their missed measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine as part of a major new campaign to protect children from becoming seriously unwell.
NHS figures show almost 3 million children under the age of 16 years are either unprotected or not fully protected and at risk of catching these serious and completely preventable diseases.
Measles is not just a childhood disease and can be serious at any age. If caught during pregnancy it can be very serious causing stillbirth, miscarriage and low birth weight and NHS bosses are also urging young adults to catch up on any missed doses before thinking about starting a family.
Two doses of the safe and effective MMR vaccine are needed for maximum life-long protection, with the first dose given around the child’s first birthday, and the second dose given at around three years and four months old.
However, anyone can catch up at any age on any missed doses and it’s never too late to protect yourself.
If you or your child have not had both doses of the MMR vaccine, contact us on 01539 718080 option 1 to book an appointment as soon as possible and catch up.

Birthday Month Annual Reviews

We are changing the way that we invite patients for their annual health checks.

  • From 1st April 2024, patients will be invited for their checks around their birthday month. This is to help patients and staff remember when their annual health checks are due.
  • A few weeks before your birthday, we will contact you by text, email, or post to arrange your appointment. While this is rolled out, some people will find that their review is a little earlier or later than usual. Please bear with us.
  • Patients who have more than one condition may be invited for more than one type of appointment.
  • Patients who use texts may be sent a brief questionnaire to update your details around this time.

If you have any questions about these changes, please ask one of our Care Navigators on 01539 718080 option 1, and they will be happy to help.

eFI Frailty Index Score

If you use the NHS App you may see an entry in your medical record mentioning an eFI Frailty score. This is because GP practices have been asked by NHS England to identify patients who could be at risk of frailty however having this score on your record does not mean you are frail.

The eFI Frailty score is a screening search that will help us to identify patients who are genuinely frail and who may need some extra support. If you fall into this category, then we will be in touch with you in due course.
