Dr James Cochrane started the practice in 1913 practising from a small building at the corner of Maude Street; he was joined by his brother, Dr Alec Cochrane in 1918. In 1927, a small purpose built surgery was built which was situated where our Maude Street Surgery stands today. The practice continued to grow with the formation of the National Health Service in 1948, and the linking with a neighbouring practice in 1958.
In 1995, we purchased the former Helme Chase Maternity Home on Burton Road in Kendal; the building was converted into a surgery to our own specifications and opened as a second site, the Helme Chase Surgery as we know it today.
