The health check is designed to check your vascular or circulatory health and look at your risk of developing some of the most disabling – but preventable – illnesses. Think of your NHS Health Check as being your “midlife MOT”. Everyone is at risk of developing heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and some forms of dementia. The NHS Health Check will assess your risk of developing these health problems and our Healthcare Support Workers will give you personalised advice on how to reduce it.
The check should take about 20-30 minutes and is based on straightforward questions and measurements such as age, sex, family history, height, weight and blood pressure. There will also be a simple blood test to measure your cholesterol level.

Our Practice Nurses are specially qualified to give you comprehensive advice regarding the vaccinations, malaria prophylaxis and other health considerations relating to travel abroad.
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please print and complete the travel questionnaire below, and hand it in at the surgery. Alternatively, you can collect a copy from our reception.
Our reception team will then book you a telephone consultation with one of our Practice Nurses to discuss your travel vaccinations, and arrange your appointment to receive them.
It is important that this is done as early as possible before you travel.
Travel Questionnaire
Why is it important that this is completed as early as possible before I travel?
You will need both a telephone appointment and a face to face appointment with one of our Practice Nurses, it is important the we leave enough time for this.
Some of the vaccines will need to be ordered into stock, it can sometimes take a little time for them to arrive.
Some vaccinations need to be completed at least 2 weeks before you travel in order for them to be effective.
Is there a cost involved?
The cost of a number of these vaccines are not covered by the NHS, and you will be charged for these. Please ask the Nurse who will be able to advise you, or see the ‘Non NHS Medical Services’ section of our website.
For the same reason, prescriptions for anti-malaria drugs are issued as private prescriptions. Some anti-malaria drugs are available over the counter. You need to check with the nurse first to ensure that the drug you are intending to take is appropriate for the area you intend travelling to.
